Microsoft Project 2002 - Intermediate

Course Objectives

This one day course builds on the fundamentals of project management using Microsoft Project, covering the more advanced features of the application. The introductory course is designed to cover the planning of a project. The intermediate course however covers use of Microsoft Project as a project management tool i.e. the project has started.

Who Should Attend?

Users of Microsoft Project who want to take a lead role in using this application as the main tool for tracking a project or combined projects. Previous experience of using Microsoft Project at an introductory level will be assumed. Delegates with no previous experience of Microsoft Project should first attend our "An Introduction to Microsoft Project" Course.

Setting the Plan.

  • Saving a baseline plan
  • Previewing a baseline report
  • Clearing a baseline plan

Tracking Project Progress.

  • Applying the Tracking Gantt Chart
  • Changing the current date
  • Tracking multiple tasks that started and finished on schedule
  • Tracking tasks that finished late
  • Tracking tasks that are currently in progress
  • Entering a percent complete for unfinished tasks
  • Customising Filters
  • Rescheduling uncompleted work

Adjusting the Schedule.

  • Changing task duration
  • Changing task
  • Creating an interim-plan table

Adjusting Resource Schedules.

  • Managing resource-driven sheduling
  • Delaying resource work
  • Managing tasks with a fixed duration
  • Using percentages for resource allocation

Customising a report Working with Data in Other Applications.

  • Importing resource information from Microsoft Excel
  • Exporting project information to Microsoft Excel
  • Copying and pasting a Gantt chart into a Microsoft Word document
  • Copying and pasting sheet information into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet

Working with Resource Pools and Consolidated Projects.

  • Opening a resource pool
  • Linking a project to a resource pool
  • Determining when to use a subproject
  • Linking a subproject to a master project
  • Linking tasks in a master project
  • Adding a task to a master project
  • Assigning resources
